VIVIAN MILSTEIN Obituary
MILSTEIN--Vivian. Columbia University Irving Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Hospital celebrate the life and mourn the recent passing of Vivian Milstein, an extraordinary friend and generous supporter. With her late husband, Seymour, she and her family truly transformed cardiac care at Columbia and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where the Seymour, Paul and Gloria Milstein Division of Cardiology at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons is named as a testament to the family's enduring legacy. Their support of research, of our clinical faculty, and of patient care in many areas of our medical center have improved and saved the lives of literally thousands, and Mrs. Milstein's influence is evident every day. She was devoted to her husband and family, and together they were committed to helping make NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia a great academic medical center. As selfless philanthropists, they contributed generously toward the Milstein Hospital Building and the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Heart Center. Through the generous support of their grandchildren, we also are proud to be the home of the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Infant Cardiac Unit. As longtime Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Seymour helped to secure the medical center's preeminent position in academic medicine. The Milstein family has continued to carry on their legacy of generosity -- with daughter Constance and son Philip serving in leadership positions on the Board of Trustees of Columbia University, the Board of Trustees of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and the Board of Advisors for the medical center. A woman of grace and elegance, Mrs. Milstein was unfailingly warm and kind. A person of great character, she was revered by her family and admired greatly by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Mrs. Milstein was also a world traveler and patron of the arts and music. She was a dear and loyal friend, and we will miss her. We offer our deepest condolences to Vivian's children: Constance and her husband, Said Abu-Kaud, Philip and his wife, Cheryl; her grandchildren, Abby, Joanna, Meredith, Joshua, Toby, and Larry; her three great-grandchildren, and the extended Milstein family.
