WALTER KAYE Obituary

KAYE--Walter, 96, New York City, passed on July 26th surrounded by friends and family. Born in New York City and raised in the Bronx. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Selma Berger Kaye and his parents, Jacob and Annie Kalmanowitz, his sisters Alice Kaye Peerce and Maye Oldin, and his brother Sidney Kaye. Survived by his children, Joan Kaye Cauthorn; Howard (Wilma) Kaye, Nancy (Sylvester) Karagis; grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Marsden, Jill (Randy) Kohl, Darren (Shara) Bialo, Caralyn Bialo,

Jacquelyn Bialo, Ross (Beth) Kaye and Robin (Carl) Amorosino; and great-grandchildren, Ayla Marsden, Siena and Jeremy Kohl, Alex and Gabrielle Amorocino and Semantha and Gabriel Kaye. Walter started in the insurance business at the age 17. At 33, Walter Kaye Associates was formed. He was joined by Howard in 1967. The company grew into one of the premier brokerage firms in the private sector. When the business was eventually sold, it was a public company with over 500 employees in cities across the country. Walter was considered a legend in his industry. Well respected by all his peers. In 1995, Walter was appointed Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for New York South and held that position as Emeritus until his death. During this time, Walter dedicated numerous hours assisting our military in charitable ways. Walter was also quite active in a number of philanthropic organizations. He will be missed. 1989/ Chaning Bldg.. ...I Had on a $300 silk hat...Matching outfit. Im thinking.." A woman's hat is a part of her outfit," so the hats a go... NoMr. Kaye Passed me in the Hallway at work ( 4th fl ) .. By the time i got to the floor i worked on...( 20th ). My supervisorwas waiting for me.. She said " Melissa, Mr. Kaye said nice hat, but you must remove it at work... He was a very nice Humble man. May He Sleep in Peace.

I met Walter in April 1986 when he invited me to have breakfast at the Skye Club the day after my MBA graduation.
I did not accept his offer of employment, but I called him 2 months later and we forged a different business relationship.
In 2004 I mentioned his name and said-- " he was the nicest client I ever conducted business with" and to my surprise everyone at the table had conducted business with Walter and they all concurred!
If mankind could be like Walter the world would be much better off.

Walter, What a sheer joy you were to know since I met you in 1972 in Tucson with Joan. The next 43 years were a whirlwind of wonder and love with you and Selma. Private meeting in 1981 at the Opera with Pavarotti that you set up and then a trip to San Francisco to see me after cancer surgery. The memories and inspirations are endless. We love you Walter.
