WILLIAM EPSTEIN Obituary

EPSTEIN--William. William Epstein of New York City and Sag Harbor New York, died peacefully at his New York City home on November 13, 2021 at the age of 88. Bill was the beloved husband of Elaine for 61 years, and the devoted father of Eric (and Michele), Ellen (and Ray) and three granddaughters: Sarah and Rebecca Brunsberg and Esme Epstein. He was born and raised in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Bill attended Madison High School and then Columbia University. At Columbia, he received both a BA in History and a BS in Chemical Engineering and was an active alumni of the Class of '55 throughout his life. After Columbia, Bill attended George Washington University Law School while working at the US Patent Office. Bill had a long and distinguished career as a Patent Attorney. He worked for more than 35 years at Hoffmann-La Roche. After retiring from this post, he joined Gibbons P.C. in the firm's Intellectual Property group, and retired at age 80. Bill was kind, friendly, and insisted that his steaks be cooked rare. His interest in classical music began as a child in Brooklyn. His father, Morris, often complained that Bill spent his Bar Mitzvah money on opera tickets to the Old Met. He found true happiness listening to opera and loved explaining the music and the melody to all. Bill also enjoyed traveling the world, eating fine foods, and spending time with family and friends in Sag Harbor. Donations can be made in Bill's honor to the Ponheary Ly Foundation (www.theplf.org [email protected]
