To the Kracklauer family,
I was saddened to hear of Bill's passing. I knew Bill in high school and had the pleasure of competing with him on the track team at Mt. Lebanon. Bill was the consumate teammate. He worked to make himself and his teammates better. He was a tough competitor and at the same time a great fan. My prayers are with your whole family.

I only recently learned about Bill from the Notre Dame magazine. I ran track and x-country with Bill at Mt. Lebo and then also attended ND. Bill was a true leader and helped push me in running as well as helped with my transition to college life. May God Bless you and comfort you.

Dear Liane, Matthew and Kracklauer family -
My deepest sympathies on the terrible loss of your beloved husband, father and son. I remember Bill as such an accomplished classmate at Columbia Law and I will not forget how proud he was of his beautiful son Matthew when I saw him at a polo game when little Matthew was a toddler.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Liane and Matthew,
I am a former classmate of Bill's from Columbia Law School. I just learned of Bill's passing from an alumni publication. Bill and I were in nearly every class together in our first year of law school, because his last name began with "K" and mine with "L." He was such a kind person, so brilliant and so much fun to be with -- even when we all were buried in schoolwork. My deepest sympathy to you on your loss.

Dear Liane and Matthew,
I have only just learned of Bill's passing. It saddens me so. I have such a warm spot in my heart for Bill. I still remember him talking about the birth of Matthew. I was expecting Hannah around the same time. We had so many fun moments together at Christy & Viener. He always had a smile, a funny comment, and a cigar at the ready. He loved his horses. I remember the dinner we all had with Gavin and Liz at the World Trade Center just before Bo and I left for Hong Kong. We will miss him. He was a grand person, a real gentleman. You have our deepest sympathy.

I am heart-broken to read of Bill's passing. As a classmate and team-mate of Bill's at Mt. Lebanon High Scool, we shared many treasured moments of personal growth and joy. I learned so much from his work ethic, intellect, and sportsmanship. He simultaneously provided me and many others with both challenge and encouragement in the classroom, on the track, and on the cross-country course. He was a source of inspiration and confidence that I carried with me through life's opportunities and challenges. I am so grateful to have had him as a friend.
I followed his career with great interest, knowing that he would go on to do great things both professionally and personally. It is clear that he was loved and admired by so many.
I send my deepest sympathies to you for his loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I only knew Bill professionally and then only for a year or so. I just learned of his passing. He was a consummate gentlemen and superb attorney. There are too few of him in our profession. I will miss him.

To the Pei & Kracklauer Families:
Bill and I shared a kinship and bond that can only be described as best of friends. For more than 20 years we shared the experiences and confidences, humor and ups and downs that only best friends would share with one another. And like any best friend, Bill will be irreplaceable as I am sure he will be as a father, husband, son and friend to many others. I can only hope that the family will feel his loving guidance and support even in his absence.
With much sorry and condolences,
David A. Walden

Matthew,
Your Dad was one of the first people I met when I arrived at Notre Dame as a freshman. He was easy to spot cruising around campus because he was the only 18 year old dressed like an alumni - red corduroy pants, v-neck sweater, and penny loafers.
There were six of us freshman sharing a suite that first year, your Dad among them. When you get to college - maybe - I can tell you some of the stories that had their genesis from within those dorm rooms. Until then, just know that your Dad was well loved by his friends and respected by all who knew him as a serious, hard-working guy who enjoyed a good laugh and a story well told.
He will be sorely missed.

I was saddened to learn of Bill's passing. I met Bill in 7th grade at Jefferson Junior High School. Our friendship was formed on the junior high basketball team and continued into high school on the track, cross country and basketball teams. Our friendly competiton resulted in many successes in athletics and academics. Although we were both self-driven, I can say without a doubt that Bill pushed me and I pushed him to achieve our utmost. Bill was a joy to be around with his quick wit and humor and I was blessed to have had him as a friend.
