CECIL VANN SAUNDERS Jr.

MR. CECIL VANN SAUNDERS,JR Mr. Cecil Vann Saunders,Jr.,age 82,of Carrollton,Georgia died Monday,December 05,2011. Mr. Saunders was born in St. Petersburg,Florida on April 13, 1929,the son of the late Cecil Vann Saunders,Sr. and Ruth Maguire Saunders. He grew up in Opelika,Alabama where he graduated and played varsity football for Opelika High School. He later graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry. Vann worked in forestry and wood products until he joined Southern Farm Bureau Insurance,which brought him to Carrollton as a district manager. He later left Farm Bureau and opened the Saunders Agency as an independent agent. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict,was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity,a director of the Little River Gun Club,past-president of the Carroll County Sportsman's Club, founder and charter member of the Russeau Hunt Club,a member of Carrollton First United Methodist Church and former member of Kiwanis and Civitan clubs. Survivors include his wife, Martha Saunders;son and daughter-in-law,Hunter and Anita Saunders of Carrollton; daughter and son-in-law,Pamela and J.C. Tolbert of Mt. Zion; grandson,Jake Saunders;sister,Jo Anne and Bob June of Alexandria, Virginia,and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents,he was preceded in death by his son, Cecil Vann "Trey" Saunders,III.; granddaughter,Jessi Wren Saunders and a sister,Barbara Saunders Brown. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A memorial service will be Thursday,Dec. 8 at 2 o'clock at the Carrollton First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jimmy Thurman and Rev. Gerry Davis officiating. Music will be provided by Pat Reynolds and Jack Barr. In lieu of flowers,memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll County Ferst Foundation, P.O.
