CHERRY SUE JACKSON Obituary

CHERRY SUE ORR JACKSON 1920-2013 Cherry Sue Orr Jackson of Opelika, AL passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was 92 years old. Cherry Sue was born on December 27, 1920 to Carey and Cherry Kindel Orr in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Roycemore School in Evanston, IL and afterwards, studied art at the Chicago Art Institute, the University of Grenoble in France, and the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. She married the late Henry Carson Jackson on October 2, 1943 and the two moved to Opelika, AL, where she remained throughout her life. They were married just shy of 60 years before his passing in 2003. An avid lover of the arts and music, she became incredibly involved in the local art community, serving as the President of the Opelika Arts Association and as the founder of the annual Opelika Arts Festival serving as its first chairman. An accomplished singer and songwriter, Cherry Sue had multiple songs published and recorded numerous albums. In addition to her involvement in the arts and music, Cherry Sue served on the Board of Directors and as past president of the Lee County Youth Development Center. She was also a member of Colonial Dames 17th Century, PEO Chapter A, and founding member of the Bluestocking Study Club. Cherry Sue attended First Baptist Church in Opelika. She was a woman full of joy and had an immense love for life. Never to be seen without a smile on her face, Cherry Sue was the embodiment of generosity, warmth, and compassion. She encouraged and aided all of those around her and all those she encountered were better for having known her. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, and sister Dorothy Jane Orr Cook. Cherry Sue is survived by her three children: Cherry Jackson of Franklin, NC, Carson Jackson (Lilli) of Opelika, AL, and Trudy Hung (Steve) of Grosse Pointe Park, MI; six grandchildren: Laurel Callaway (David), Carey Sveen, Dr. Henry Jackson III (Stephanie), Jackson Sveen, Jane Randall Cleek (Drew), and Abby Hung. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Opelika in the Samford Parlor today at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service in the sanctuary at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations may be directed to the Lee County Youth Development Center or the Boys and Girls Club of Lee County in honor of Cherry Sue Jackson. Cherry Sue brought light into this dark world wherever she went. She was a true STAR! Her Beloved husband, Henry Carson Jackson had to come all the way north to Chicago to discover his true Sourthern Belle! The two of them together were outstanding people, who brought much joy to others. They raised three remarkable children who continued in the Jackson tradtion of sharing kindness and generosity to others. This world is a better place for having them in it! Well done, Good and Faithful servant. In HIS Precious Love, & that of Our Whole Family- Ruth Ann Biggs

To the Entire Jackson Family,
Cherry Sue was an absolute delight! Belinda and I had so much fun visiting and reconnecting with her last March. It was a time that will live in my heart always. You were blessed to have such a lady in your lives and your corners always. She's with Henry again, and I know that makes her very happy. Hugs to you all, Susan Biggs Wallace

To the Jackson family-
I am so sorry to hear about Cherry Sue. I know you all realize what incredible people you had for parents. Our family just adored them! What a blessing it was to be able to spend time at the cabin and with Cherry Sue last March. Cherry sat and told us all about her Grandchildren...(she was sooo proud of each of them).
I know my Dad and Henry have been causing some trouble up in heaven and now Cherry Sue can try and keep them in line. It's a big job but Cherry Sue can do it!!!
Please keep in touch~
God Bless you all,
Belinda Biggs-Bird
