George Waldrop Obituary
George Alex Waldrop
November 2, 1942 - January 14, 2026
George Alex Waldrop, age 83, entered eternal rest on January 14, 2026. He was born on November 2, 1942, to the late Jean Watson Waldrop and George Truitt Waldrop.
George was raised in Hueytown, Alabama, where he attended Hueytown High School. He later graduated from Auburn University in August 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While attending Auburn, George met the love of his life, Lina Marion Abney, and they were married in 1964. He was an active member of Sigma Pi Fraternity, where he also served as president.
Following graduation, George began a distinguished career as a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service, serving from 1965 to 1985. His assignments included Birmingham, Alabama; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, Georgia; and Albany, Georgia. In his office hung a framed newspaper article titled "All Service, No Secrets." Though George never divulged national secrets, the stories he shared from his years of service were treasured by family and friends alike.
After retiring from the Secret Service, George spent ten years with First State Bank in Albany, Georgia, followed by several more years working in investigations.
In 2006, George and Lina's journey came full circle when they returned to Auburn. There, George met Roy Crowe and apprenticed as a falconer, spending countless days roaming the woods, captivated by the thrill and beauty of the chase.
In 2018, George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lina. In 2023, his son Matthew Abney Waldrop and daughter-in-law Shannon Leigh Waldrop moved in with him, sharing companionship and enriching one another's lives.
George leaves cherished memories with his three grandchildren: George Truitt Waldrop, Liam Becker, and Addison Becker.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Auburn University Raptor Center, honoring George's lifelong love of Auburn and raptor conservation.
