James Anthony Meadows

Mr. James Anthony Meadows, age 56, of Lanett, Alabama, passed away at his residence Sunday, January 15, 2023. Mr. Meadows was born in Langdale, Alabama, July 3, 1966, to James Calvin Meadows and Pam Brown Meadows. After graduation, he attended Southern Union Community College, where he earned his associates degree in Electronic Engineering and Technology. In 1990, he began working in the maintenance department for Mobil and later, Exxon Mobil in their mobile packaging films division in LaGrange, Georgia, which was later sold to and remains the Jindal Poly Films Company today. He ultimately accepted the position of supervisor and later, retired due to his health. Mr. Meadows was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping with his family, visiting the mountains, hunting, and any water related sports. His love for sports included the iconic University of Alabama football program. He loved the all American game of baseball and he enjoyed dirt track racing. Anthony loved the game of baseball and he coached in a travel ball league and two years for the Valley Junior High School baseball team. His coaching skills and the talent of his players took them to the Little League World Series. He was more than a coach to his players. He played an instrumental role in many young men's lives coaching and mentoring each one to be better baseball players and young men. He would often stay in close contact with his past players to follow their careers and to see them succeed. He enjoyed traveling with his family and his racing family to dirt tracks across the southeast to race. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Laura Meadows; children, Brittney Meadows Fulford, Blake Meadows (Kristen) and Hunter Meadows (Kalli Rose Kiker); parents, James Calvin Meadows and Pam Meadows; grandchildren, Hailyn Ann Fulford, Dailee Mae Fulford, Bryson James Fulford, Payson Blair Meadows and Parker Blake Meadows; numerous cousins; extended family members; his racing family; and his baseball family; and a plethora of friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 19, at 2:00pm EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley with interment following in Harmony Cemetery. The Reverend Mark McGee and Dr. Kenneth Overby will conduct the service. Pallbearers will be Jimbo Auchmuty, Mike Meadows, Ryan Meadows, Scott Meadows, Steven Meadows and Jason Meadows.
