Lauren Duffey Dempsey

LAUREN DUFFEY DEMPSEY 1962 - 2010 Lauren Duffey Dempsey, of Opelika, was born at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama on August 16, 1962, and passed away at East Alabama Medical Center on December 7, 2010. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. Lauren graduated high school in Miami, Florida, and attended Auburn University. She was an animal lover and most enjoyed her work with horned owl research at the National Park Service in Washington State. She felt that her years in medical records were rewarding and a contribution to helping others. Lauren's gentle spirit and wry wit were experienced by those who knew her best. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Dempsey; maternal grandmother and grandfather, Estelle Vinson Allen and Leon H. Allen, Sr.; paternal grandmother and grandfather, Carolyn Lord Duffey and Roland A. Duffey; uncle, Walter E. Duffey; aunt, Jane D. Talley; and cousins, Dianne D. Novelo and John Talley. She is survived by her father, Don B. Duffey, Sr. and wife Pauline; mother, Annette Allen Edwards and husband Ray; brother, Don B. Duffey, Jr. and wife Ulrike; sisters, Alicia C. Spado and Maria C. Jordan; nieces, Olivia Wise and Alexis Mason; nephews, Benjamin Anthony, Michael Spado, Jr., and Robert Childress; uncle, L. H. Allen, Jr. and wife Betty; aunt, Lenora Allen Sykes and husband Charles; and cousins, Chris Goggans and Bert Sykes. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 2 PM CST at Hopewell United Methodist Church, with Reverend Tommy Wilson officiating.
