Mary Edwards Obituary

Mary Walton Edwards

February 4, 1965 - October 29, 2020

Mary Walton Edwards, 55, passed away at EAMC in Opelika, Alabama, on October 29, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary was born the fifth of six children of Dave and Jo Ann Walton on February 4, 1965, in the Main Line area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she resided until her 1983 graduation from high school. After graduation, Mary chose to pursue her college education at Auburn University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Science – Finance, in the Spring of 1987. While attending Auburn she met Chuck Edwards, her future husband and love of her life. Mary and Chuck were married in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, on May 25, 1991. The two spent the early years of their marriage in Birmingham, Alabama - where their three children were born - and West Point, Georgia, before finally settling in Auburn in May, 2000.

Since 2005, Mary had been an owner and general manager of Payroll Inc., a local payroll service provider located in Auburn. She provided excellent customer service, and was well-liked and respected by all of her clients, employees and co-workers. Prior to 2005, Mary had been involved in investor relation roles at both AmSouth Bank in Birmingham and ITC Deltacom in West Point.

Mary was a devoted wife, dedicated mother and loyal friend…always smiling and trying to make people happy. She loved to dance; she loved to spend time with family and her many friends; she loved being a wife to her soulmate Chuck; and, most of all, she loved being a wonderful mother to her three children - Chase (27), Lauren (24) and Ashley (23).

Mary will be remembered for her endearing smile, her mesmerizing eyes, and her genuine love of friends and family. Although she will be dearly missed by her surviving loved ones, we take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her mother, and together they are dancing pain free.

Mary is survived by her husband, Chuck, and their three children, Chase, Lauren and Ashley; father, Dave Walton; siblings, including three sisters – Becky Walton, Terry Walton and Mauri Walton – and two brothers - Steve (Kate) Walton and David Walton; mother-in-law, Pat Edwards; brother-in-law, Patrick (Haley) Edwards; seven nieces and nephews; and two faithful four-legged friends, Hope and Molly.

She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Jo Ann Walton, and her father-in-law, Hugh Edwards.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2:30 PM at Auburn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Cummings presiding. Immediately following the memorial service, the family will receive family and friends at a Celebration of Life ceremony at the home of dear friends, George and Regena Spence, located at 9338 Lee Road 146, Opelika, Alabama.

Her remains will be interred in Town Creek Cemetery in a private family ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Mary's honor to either EAMC Foundation - Spencer Cancer Center (2000 Pepperell Parkway, Opelika, AL 36801) or Make-A-Wish Foundation – Alabama, (400 Vestavia Parkway, Suite 402, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216).

A beautiful person. She is leaving behind a wonderful family and I know she wanted more time with you all, but it really seems like you made the most of every moment you had together. I will miss her.
