Dr. Oscar Hilt Tatum III

May 1, 1958 - January 29, 2021

Dr. Oscar Hilt Tatum III, age 62, formerly of Opelika, AL and St, Petersburg, FL went to his Heavenly home on January 29, 2021 at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 10am in Garden Hill Cemetery, Opelika, AL. In lieu of flowers, Hilt would be honored if you pass a donation forward to someone in need.

Hilt was born May 1, 1958 in Savannah, GA and moved to Opelika, AL as a 3 year old with his family. He was a 1976 graduate of Lee Academy, a 1980 graduate of Auburn University, and a 1984 graduate of The University of Florida College of Dentistry. He followed in his father's footsteps practicing dentistry in St. Petersburg and Clearwater, FL where he had a dedicated staff which he proudly called his friends. During this time he was also a dedicated baseball coach at Northeast Little League where many friendships were made with players and their families. He retired from dentistry in 2007 and moved to Panamà City, Panamà where he joined his son Hilt Tatum IV in business. He dedicated his last decade to building affordable homes and creating hundreds of jobs.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years Scarlett Stutts Tatum, his son Hilt Tatum IV, his daughter-in-law Sarah, and his granddaughters Sophie, Lola, and Harper Tatum. His father Hilt Tatum, Jr (Roswitha); mother Carolyn Cunningham Tatum; siblings Dr James Tatum (Dottie), Corinne Tatum Hurst (Jimmy) and Caroline Tatum Pugh (Michael); half sibling Thomas Tatum (Nicole); several nieces and nephews; and an extended Tatum family.
