Westa A. Kemerling

Westa A. Kemerling, formerly of Battle Creek, went to be with her Lord, March 30, 2009 in Kennesaw, GA with family by her side. Westa was born March 15, 1934 in Battle Creek, MI, the daughter of Gairold (Babe) and Golda (Goldie) Minier Sharpsteen. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. On January 24, 1954 in Battle Creek, MI, Westa was united in marriage to Kenneth D. Kemerling. She was a faithful member of several Methodist churches throughout her life including Birchwood United Methodist and First Methodist in Battle Creek. Westa worked at Michigan Loan Co. and later Kellogg Co. for 20 years. Upon retirement, she and Ken lived in Mt. Dora, FL, then Auburn, AL, later moving to Kennesaw, GA to be near their daughter and her family. Westa’s greatest joys were caring for her family and home always placing their needs in front of her own. She lived life as an example to others always compassionate and never judging. Her loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Ken; two children, Ronald (Anne), of Kalamazoo, MI and Rhonda (Terry), of Acworth, GA, four grandchildren, Whitney and Brian Kemerling, Erin and Kelsey Royer as well as special family friend, Candace Hawk among other close friends and relatives. Westa was preceded in death by her parents, Gairold and Golda Sharpsteen and a brother, Pherold. Services were held at Auburn United Methodist Church on April 2, 2009. Officiating at the service was Dr. George Mathison. Arrangements were made by Jeff Coat-Trant Funeral Home. The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Joel McDavid Sunday School at the Auburn United Methodist Church.
