Willie Love Obituary
Funeral service for Mr. Willie A. Love, 76, of Opelika, AL will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints (510 Groce Street; Opelika, AL). Bishop Curtis Hansen will officiate. Masks are required. Interment will be held at 12:00 pm CST Monday at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
He passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022 at EAMC – Lanier Hospital in Valley, AL. Mr. Love was currently a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Opelika and was a past member of Thompson Chapel AME Zion Church of Opelika, AL. In 1963, he graduated from JW Darden High School. He was a US Air Force Veteran. Mr. Love retired from the City of Opelika Parks and Recreation Department.
Public viewing will be held Friday from 4:00-6:00 pm.
He is survived by: a step-son (a real son), Mr. Victor "Rusty" J. Welth (Retired Petty Officer 1st Class) of Cusseta, AL; special nieces, Mrs. Shirley Harris (like a sister) of Syracuse, NY, Mrs. Cynthia (Terry), Vietnam era (Navy) Russaw- Mitchell of Conyers, GA and Ms. Sharon Taylor of Cusseta AL; a step-grandson (a grandson), Mr. Victor J. Welth II of Tampa FL; nieces, Mrs. Lavon Johnson of Wadley, AL and Mrs. Gloria Greathouse of Monroe, AL; a brother-in-law, Mr. William Greathouse of Camp Hill, AL; a,special great-nephew, Mr. Adrian Crook (Ret. Army, Master Sergeant) of Auburn, AL; great-nieces, Ms. Radette Eddra Crook of Treasure Island, FL and Mrs. Phillissa (Ronnie) Green of Roanke, AL and Ms. Carla (Kelvin) Williams of Montgomery, AL; great nephews, Ralph (Martha) E. Crook, Jr. of Florence, AL, Samuel (Toni) Crook of Dadeville AL and Timothy (Amelia) Johnson of Atlanta GA.
We would like to say thank you to all the family, church members, friends and close neighbors (Nick, Eddie, Doug and Mike) for your support to our father and uncle throughout the years. Thanks to Dr. Christopher Striker and Ms. Lynn Humphries RN, Case Manager, Tisha Patton RN, Nadine Brooks LPN and other nursing staff at EAMC and EAMC Lanier Hospital and Nursing Facility for providing the best care to our loved one.

I am so very sorry to hear about Mr. Love, he will always remain one of my favorite people. I met him oh so many years ago when my family opened Papa Joe's BBQ, he was a faithful customer. When I opened my restaurant (Zoe's Delite), he would catch a ride and get his usual Hamburger Steak. I will miss his lovely spirit. My prayers are with his friends and family.
