Clarence Luxton Obituary

ODESSA Clarence Luxton lost his physical life on May 23, 2011 and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born near Reagan Wells, Texas to Charles (Cobb) and Mary Lou Luxton on January 5th, 1923. They preceded him in death as well as three brothers; Charlie, Red, Babe; four sisters, Pearl, Maggie, Irene, Nola; Clarence's wife and sweetheart of 65 years, Daphna; one son Laurence died at the age of 14 months, one daughter Mary Francis at the age of 51. He is survived by their daughter Loretta Rae Zochol and her husband John of Alliance, Nebraska, son Kelly Luxton and his wife Julia of Odessa, TX.

Clarence and Daphna have eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clarence and Daphna met and married in Seattle during World War II, where they were both stationed, he with the Army Air Corp and she as a Navy Nurse. After they married Daphna left the Navy and within two weeks Clarence was sent to England to prepare for D-Day. Clarence went ashore on Normandy Beach with a mobile radar unit and memories of that event still brought tears to his eyes when he thought about the courage and sacrifice of our soldiers there and throughout the rest of war. He was overseas and away from Daphna for almost two years and saw and experienced service in the Ardennes and on into Germany where he saw the horror of the concentration camps and also the salt mines where the Nazis stashed linens and art work that they had confiscated.

After the service Clarence and Daphna settled in Texas and he worked on a ranch in Sutton County and also for Sutton County. He then went to work in the oilfield and roughnecked, drilled, and finished up working for Helco Fishing Tool where he retired.

Upon retirement he opened a feed store which he was still operating.

Clarence was a long time member of Northside Baptist Church and had also attended Calvary Chapel recently.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Tuesday May 24, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday May 25, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
