Ernest Turner Obituary

ODESSA - Conrad Turner, devoted son, husband, and father, went to be with the Lord on August 9th. Conrad was born to Willard and Loudine Turner on March 12, 1941 in Wood County, Texas. Conrad was the oldest of four children born to Willard and Loudine. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1959 and Eastern New Mexico University in 1963. Three years later, on March 24, 1966, Conrad married the love of his life, Laura Ann Moore. In 1968. Conrad and Laura welcomed their only child, a daughter, Valaria. In the years that followed, Conrad faithfully served in churches in Andrews, Katy, and Odessa, Texas. Conrad was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Odessa, Texas.

Conrad retired from Amoco after 33 years in Andrews, Odessa, and Houston. Conrad not only devoted himself to his family, his church, and his job, but he reveled in officiating sports. He umpired Little League baseball, junior high and high school basketball, and high school and small college football for both the Houston and Permian Basin Officials chapters. Conrad loved making sure that the games he officiated were played with integrity and enjoyment by players and coaches. Over the years, he formed great bonds with other officials that lasted him long after his days as a referee ended.

Conrad also committed himself to educational excellence, serving several years on the Andrews ISD school board, understanding the value of education on the community and each individual student. His life was one of devotion to his family and commitment to his community.

Conrad was a lifetime member of the Masons. He served for a time as Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Andrews, Texas.

Conrad is preceded in the passing from this life to the next by his parents, Willard and Loudine Turner of Andrews and his wife of 50 years, Laura Turner, whom he missed terribly after her passing on July 28, 2016, three months after their 50th wedding anniversary.

Conrad is survived by sisters Dian Whittington of Mineola, Texas, Phyllis Duncan of Thurmont, Maryland, and brother Alan Turner of Plano, Texas. He's also survived by daughter Valaria Turner of Plano, Texas, whom he treasured all of the days his life together as father and child.

All of those are the parts of Conrad's life, but his life can only be truly measured by the whole of it. His life is one that is defined less by its journey and more by its destination and only in celebrating in that destination can the journey of his 81 years be truly appreciated and enjoyed by those who knew him well and best. To God be the glory for a life well-lived and an eternal rest well-earned.

Memorial service will be held Tuesday August 16, 2022 at 10AM at First Baptist Church Odessa.

Sorry to hear this sad news. I met Conrad in Andrews in 1975 when I first started with Amoco. He was quite a character and someone that I'll never forget! I rejoice in knowing he has graduated to glory!
