Michael Gibson Obituary

MINGUS - Michael Gene Gibson was born May 7th, 1944 in Seminole, Texas to parents Howard and Imogene Gibson and big brother Ron Gibson. He was raised in west Texas and graduated from Odessa High School. After high school he married Myron "Nubbin" Gibson in 1965 and shortly after enlisted in the United States Army. Stationed primarily in Lawton, Oklahoma, Mike served from 1966 to 1969. Upon return from the Army, Mike and Nubbin welcomed Leah Michelle Gibson on November 27, 1971 in Odessa, TX. Leah was the light of his life and anyone Mike met would be told stories of Leah and everything he loved about her.

On November 10, 1989 Mike married Sharon Gibson in Kermit, TX. After twenty-seven years in the oil field industry with Amoco, Mike retired and began his next chapter ranching in Notrees, TX. In 1998 Mike and Sharon moved to the Gibson Farm in Mingus, TX where they currently reside. Mike poured his heart into the farm raising goats, cattle and sheep. He was known for having fresh chicken eggs for $2 a dozen, the best okra, squash, and banana peppers fresh from the garden and a friendly dog to greet you in the driveway.

Mike had a passion for hunting, fishing, rodeo and team roping. He had beloved horses that took care of him as he won numerous saddles, buckles, and jackpot prizes. The quintessential cowboy, his manners and charm helped him make friends and life-long roping partners everywhere he went. He was never short on stories and Mike "Hoot" Gibson was always happy to sit and talk outside over a beer.

The community of friends and family Mike leaves behind will no doubt feel the void of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife Sharon Gibson, daughter Leah High and late husband Dwayne High, brother Ron Gibson and wife Georgia Gibson, stepdaughter Lori Helton, stepson Charlie Carson and wife Carolina Carson. Grandsons Cody Helton, Cole Helton, Ryan High, and Chuckie Carson. Granddaughters Skyla Helton, Myka High, and Sharon Carson. Great grandchildren Tristen Bynum, Paxton Helton-Dunn, Georgia Helton, Knox Helton, and Easton High along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that felt like family.

To Mike's Family,
Mike will be truly missed. He always had a smile and enjoyed having fun riding and roping. We had lots of fun practicing at the Sheriff's Posse in Odessa years ago and I was always invited to rope at his place when he had cattle to rope. A great guy that it was my pleasure to know. May God give the family comfort and peace during this very trying time. God loves his cowboys. Rest in Peace my friend. May God Bless You All.
