Nancy Polson Obituary

AUSTIN - Nancy Jean Clift Polson of Marfa, Texas passed away June 22, 2016 at the age of 80.

Nancy was born March 19, 1936 to Hugh and Claudia Clift in Seguin, Texas; she also had a brother, Rodney Allon Clift. Nancy grew up in a strong Christian family in Sweetwater, Texas and they were members of the Highland Heights United Methodist Church. She graduated from high school in Sweetwater and attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas, where she met Dub Polson. Dub and Nancy were married in Sweetwater on February 11, 1956 and after a short stay in Clyde, moved to Marfa, Texas. Nancy was hired to teach in the Marfa ISD and taught there for 35 years before retiring. During her teaching years, Nancy's 8th grade class was instrumental in petitioning the Texas Department of Transportation to build the Marfa Lights rest stop and viewing area so popular today with the many travelers on Highway 90.

After retirement Nancy served on the MISD school board and enjoyed her many friends. In particular, a group of friends known as the "3 o'clock Dairy Queen coffee bunch", a very special group of women that loved, respected and cared for each other. Nancy raised 2 sons, Rink and Jon Polson that she was very close to, attending every sporting event and carefully clipping out the newspaper articles of their accomplishments. She also dearly loved her grandchildren, filling the house with their pictures as they grew up. Dub and Nancy lived in the same block for over 50 years and they developed strong relationships with their closest neighbors. As the years went by, it was these dear friends that they came to rely on for their help and support and to whom they were very grateful.

Nancy is survived in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Rink and Paige Polson of Loma, Colorado. Son Jon Polson of Austin, Texas and his children, Grandson, Wyatt Polson, granddaughter and her husband Whitney and John Denham and great-granddaughter Brynn. Brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Judy Polson. Nephew Mark Polson, niece Mindy Rogers and her husband Lee Rogers, and several cousins including double-cousin Carolyn De La Cruz.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dub Polson, her parents, Hugh and Claudia Clift, her brother Rodney Allon Clift, her infant son Bobby Darrell and her granddaughter Hayley Brynn Polson.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 6, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, Marfa, TX.
