Robert Doyle "“Mac”" McAfee

1919 - 2009

ODESSA Robert Doyle "Mac" McAfee, 90, longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Milam County, Texas, to Robert Ashbury and Fannie Ellen (Hitch) McAfee. Robert married Lillian Bonnie VanZandt Nov. 27, 1937, at Brownfield, Terry County, Texas, she passed away Nov. 23, 1974.

Robert was raised in Andrews, Texas, then lived most of his married life in Odessa. He was an automotive machinist. Robert and Lillian had four children, James Doyle McAfee of Lenexia, Kan., Liddie Faye Price of Arlington, Texas, Delmer Lee McAfee of Odessa, and Geraldine Tucker of Santa Anna, Texas. Robert belonged to the First United Pentecostal Church where he served as a deacon for many years. In his early years he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. In the 1940s he worked for Odessa Service Parts. After leaving there he worked at Machotka Auto Parts for several years. He and Lillian sold Best Line Products before they started Mac's Machine and Supply in the 1500 block of Grant Street. He built their homes, then sold them and built another one for his family to reside in. He loved to hunt and many vacations were in Colorado to hunt deer and elk.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Roy McAfee; and sisters, Sis Glenn, Katy Bennett and Lou Ollie Thompson.

He is survived by James Doyle McAfee and wife, Liddie, and Don Price, Delmer and Jane McAfee, Geraldine and Tony Tucker; grandchildren, Sharon and Wendell, Connie, Dona and Sheila, Debbie and Buddy, Archie and Lillian; numerous great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter, Lexi Lemaire.

The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at First United Pentecostal Church with Jared Pugh officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
