Sara Carver Obituary

ODESSA - Sara Lou Watts Carver, 80, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on January 16, 2021. She was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 5, 1940, to Obie Lynn and Luna Mae Watts.

Sara will be remembered by many as the backbone of Watts Burger #1. For many years, Sara opened up the restaurant, prepped and prepared for the day's business, laughed with the employees, greeted the customers, worked the lunch run, and sometimes, after working all day, she even cleaned up and locked up for the night. In 2008, Sara retired from the Burger, but she continued her love of cooking and visiting with people.

Sara met George William Carver and the two became inseparable from that moment on. They wed on February 1, 1961, going on to have two sons, Don and Kyle. Throughout their 60 years of marriage, they spent much time traveling in their motor home and making friends across the country. They moved away to Weatherford, Texas, for a few years, but returned to their hometown and settled in at Parks Retirement Village where they met many sweet friends.

Sara was a dedicated wife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves us with many memories that bring smiles. Sara could always be found in the kitchen cooking up a meal or baking a special dessert. Her interest in arts and crafts kept her busy sewing Halloween costumes, decorating birthday cakes, laying mosaic tiles, embroidering Christmas stockings, and making jewelry. Sara loved flowers. She spent many hours tending to her garden. Knowing how much Sara loved flowers, George would bring her vases of fresh cut flowers to sit on the kitchen table. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Waymon Lynn Watts.

She is survived by her husband, George; sister, Mary Redmon; son, Don and wife, Cindy of Amarillo, Texas; son, Kyle and wife, Sharon of Odessa, Texas; grandchildren, Broc Ball and wife, Amanda, Savannah Carver, Kyleigh York and husband, Cody, and Kolton Carver and wife, Ashley; as well as 4 great-granddaughters, Alexa, Hadison, Bellamy, and Bexleigh, and one great-grandson, Wrangler James.

Services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 10th, at 1:00 PM at Hubbard- Kelly Funeral Home, 601 N. Alleghaney, in Odessa.

Sara and I were friends for over 70 years--dating all the way back to our elementary years at Rusk Elementary and when Mr. Watts sold hamburgers at his grocery store across the street from the school. I was blessed to have last seen her fewer than 2 years ago at Parks. We were both so happy to see each other that we got a little bit loud, much to the consternation of the nice, polite and quiet-speaking residents eating lunch! Sara was beautiful inside and out. She was genuine in every sense of the word--just like her parents before her! I am so very proud that we were and will always be FRIENDS! Love you Sara; and, know that I feel certain that the Angels were your guide; as they led you into Paradise; and, took you Home--to the New Jerusalem!
