William Creager Obituary

MENTONE William "Royce" Creager, 74, died Oct. 26, 2007, at his home in Mentone.

Creager was born June 26, 1933, in Gorman, TX, to Elsie and Earl O. Creager, Sr.

His early childhood was spent on the L7 Ranch and the family later moved to Levelland, where he attended school and played football for Levelland High School. He married Joyce Caswell in 1953 and worked for several oil field companies.

Creager spent three years in the United States Air Force as a B29 Mechanic. Over a period of years, he was a cotton farmer, owned an air spraying service and wire line service, and a car lot.

In 1969, he moved to Mentone, where he established his oil field contract pumping service. He married his wife Barbara in 1976 and they have enjoyed working and traveling together. His greatest pride is the rodeo arena he has worked on since 1971, which he and Barbara recently donated to the county. He was a dedicated supporter of 4-H and all youth activities. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 6284, and the American Legion Post 0339.

He was also county commissioner for Loving County for 22 years.

Royce was preceded in death by his infant son, Terry Earl, his parents, sister, Doris Sherrell and brother, Jerry Creager.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; son, Devin Lee and wife, Beverly of Louise, TX; daughter, Delana Kay and husband, Harry Hamner of Mentone; stepson, Kevin Berryman of Port Aransas; stepdaughter, Lynette and husband, David Bailey of Corpus Christi; brothers, Earl O. Creager Jr. of Hobbs and Don Creager of Kermit; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Royce has donated his body to the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and a Memorial Service will be held at the Mentone Rodeo Arena at 3 p.m., Nov. 4.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Royce and Barbara Creager Rodeo Arena Fund, P.O. Box 375, Mentone, TX 79754 or to the charity of your choice.

Our grateful thanks to Home Hospice staff for their love and care, and to all for the prayers and support of family and friends. God bless you all.

Barbara, we are so sad to hear about Royce, he always had a smile. Since moving to Lubbock, Dr. Lovett always was thrilled when he saw you two at Coventant Hospital. We know you will miss your best friend, our heart goes out to you, and the world cries for the loss of a good man.

Barbara & Family....

My sincere condelences to you & your family. Royce was a wonderful person and man that I loved to talk to during my many years of dealing with Royce on the many contract wells that he pumped. He never winced or complained when I told him that we were going to have to shut wells in at 2AM in the morning due to the MiVida Treating Plant being down. May our heavenly father bless you and the family as Royce begins a new journey in his life. God bless all of you.
