Albert Almasy Obituary

Albert J. Almasy, 92, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, March 5, 2024, in TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg. He was born September 26, 1931, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Andrew and Anna Hoholak Almasy. Al lived his life in Canonsburg, he graduated from Canonsburg High School, class of 1949 and was a Member of St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He had been employed for many years as a steel worker at the J & L Steel Corporation and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. Mr. Almasy was the owner of A.J. Almasy Sporting Goods for 40 years in Canonsburg. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and even tried skiing in his 50s. He loved to garden and go to the casino. Al was a member of the White Eagles Society and the VFW Post 191 both of Canonsburg. On May 19, 1956, he married Beverly A. Murphy, whom he leaves behind after 67 years of marriage. Also left to cherish his memory are his children, Ted S. (Heather) Almasy of Center Township and Melissa A. (Scott) Steen of Naperville, Ill.; his beloved grandchildren: Megan E. and Andrew (AJ) Steen, and Halie and Sara Almasy; his great-grandchild, Hayden; his sister, Alice Windstein of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Martha Chemiento and Anna Marie Luginski. Mr. Almasy's family would like to sincerely thank the staff at TownView for their kind attention and service given to their father. Private family visitation and Catholic Blessing services will be held in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREAMATION SERVICES, INC., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. Interment will full Military Honors by the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg Honor Guard and the United States Army, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to Gateway Hospice, 9830 McKnight Road, Suite 201, Pittsburgh PA 15237, or Meals on Wheels, 102 North Main Street, Houston, PA 15342.
