Anthony Estanich Obituary
02/25/1943 - 11/2/2025 Anthony Oscar Estanich Sr., son of Otis F. and Margaret Dockmonovich Estanich and known as "Pooch" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully, in his home, Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the age of 82. He is survived by his two younger siblings, Gary Estanich and Cynthia Estanich; Bernardine Hillsman Estanich; his children, Anthony O. Estanich Jr. and Colleen Duffy Estanich, Michael Estanich, Alecia Estanich Stephens and Michael Stephens, and Jillian Estanich; and his grandchildren, Allison Estanich, Nolan Richardson, Alyssa Estanich, and Connor Stephens. Pooch lived a life defined by consistency, hard work, and love for his family. He was a simple guy who found comfort in a good routine and the unwavering support of those he loved. Growing up in rural Southwestern Pennsylvania showed him that family and community are the foundation of a good life. He was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School (1961) and a proud veteran of the United States Army, having been drafted into the Vietnam War and stationed in Germany. He worked in the Nemacolin Coal Mine for 14 years and was a proud union member of the United Miners Workers of America (Local 6290). As a resident of Nemacolin, he was a member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church and a volunteer firefighter, serving as captain for a time. Upon the closing of the Nemacolin Coal Mine in 1989, Pooch moved his family to Ohio to provide them a better life. He wanted his children to have opportunities beyond his own and encouraged them to pursue higher education. An avid sports fan, he could always be found watching his favorite teams on Sunday afternoons. He was a dedicated fan of Pittsburgh sports, an allegiance he never wavered from. He enjoyed watching and rooting for his children playing baseball, basketball, track and dance, and grandchildren playing baseball and soccer. His eyes lit up during the holidays, a time he loved for the festive routines and the joy of being surrounded by his loved ones. He possessed a wonderfully direct and honest nature; you always knew where you stood with him, a trait he maintained even in raising his children, teaching them the value of clear truth. He was the first to offer a good laugh and wasn't afraid to be the subject of one, often sharing an embarrassing story about himself for everyone's amusement. From his days as a teenager working as a lifeguard at the community pool to his love for driving fast cars, he maintained a youthful spirit. Ever adapting to the world around him, he embraced the internet and all its possibilities - from reading books on digital screens to playing online games with new friends from around the country and establishing himself as a virtual farmer, always taking his mornings to harvest his fields. Anthony Oscar Estanich, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of honesty, loyalty and simplicity and a reminder that a life well-lived is one filled with both hard work and heartfelt laughter.
