Anthony "Duncan" Thomas, 93, of Canonsburg, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in his home. Anthony "Duncan" Thomas, 93, of Canonsburg, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in his home. He was born in Canonsburg, on September 1, 1930, a son of the late Anthony J. and Helen Donnelly Thomas. Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Canonsburg High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Master Sergent, in Ulm, Germany and Camp Atterberry, Indiana, during the Korean War, and served several years with the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was a faithful member of St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church, where he was a volunteer, served as an usher and served as past president of the Catholic Men's Club. Prior to his retirement, Duncan had been employed at the former McGraw Edison Power Systems for 41 years, where he served as an officer of local union 3968 for 30 years. Mr. Thomas was a dedicated Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Boyle Assembly 3291, for 70 years where he was Past Grand Knight and a member of the Fourth Degree. Duncan was an amateur athlete who was active in many sporting events as long as he was able, especially the Knights of Columbus bowling league. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, scoring a "hole in one" and a "double eagle" at Maggie's golf course. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tony had a special concern for animal care and prevention of cruelty to animals. He was a supporter of Animal Friends and leaves behind many cats that he rescued and provided for their ongoing care. He was involved with many animal welfare and rescue groups for many years. On August 7, 1952, he married his dear wife, Sarah Jane Kern, who passed away on November 27, 2017, after 65 years of marriage. He leaves behind his two daughters, Linda (Andrew B. "Bernie") Graytok of Canonsburg and Joyce (the late Harold) Johnston of Cecil; grandchildren: Jared (Carrie) Johnston, Candice Alexandra Graytok, Casey Johnston and Heather Lacy (Russell) Graytok; his brother, Ted (Shirley) Thomas of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are his brothers, Robert D. and John Thomas; and sisters, Carmella Hartman, Betty Jean Shannon, Shirley Ann Clifton and Helen Orcutt. Friends and family are welcome from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2023, in SALANDRA FUNERAL and CREMATION SERVICES, INC., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner / Supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg.
