Barbara J. Cress Keefer, 91, graduated to Glory, from her home in Washington, Saturday, January 14. She left this life with joyful anticipation of God's salvation promise through Jesus Christ our Lord.
She was born September 4, 1931, in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late Will L. and Nina Johnston Cress.
Barbara was a graduate of the former Wheeling High School class of 1949 and the Elliott Business College. During her early years growing up on Wheeling Island, she often helped at her father's photography business; Cress Studio of Photography.
She was a member of the former Thomson Methodist Church on Wheeling Island where she met her future husband; and served as church secretary. Later she and Bill Keefer were members of East Richland Friends Church. More recently she attended Central Assembly of God in Houston, with her family. Each church fellowship strengthened her personal relationship with and love for the Lord Jesus.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, William J. Keefer; a son Gregory W. Keefer; three brothers, William A. Cress (Kitty), Robert J. Cress (Constance) and Richard A. Cress (Juanita); brother-in-law, Professor Robert F. Keefer, PhD (Rebecca); and sister-in-law, Suzanne Keefer.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Frederick F. Keefer, DC and his wife Jill of Washington; daughter, Nina "Nicki" Keefer of Ellenton, Fla.; brother, Don Cress (Carla) of Bradenton, Fla.; sister-in-law, Roxie Derheimer of Wheeling; brother-in-law, Dr. F. Jay Keefer, MD of Wheeling and many Cress nieces and a nephew as well as Keefer nephews and nieces with whom she loved to spend time.
Friends and family will be received for a memorial visitation on Saturday January 21, 2023 from 1 p.m. until the time of memorial service at 2 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Rd., Wheeling 304-232-2732.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
