Carl Spittka Obituary

Carl P. Spittka, 87, of Houston, passed away, Saturday, February 15, 2024, in Concordia Hospice of Washington, Donnell House, with his family by his side. He was born January 13, 1938, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Charles and Pauline Smiddle Spittka. Carl was a 1955 graduate of Canonsburg High School. He served with the U.S. Air Force from January 1960 until December of 1963 with 18 months spent overseas in the Philippines. Mr. Spittka was a coal miner, having worked at several Consol Energy mines, retiring from the Bailey Mine. Carl was a model train enthusiast, collecting trains, building train layouts as well as taking several train trips. On June 24, 1961, he married Janice L. Hall, who survives. They enjoyed traveling, covering all the states except Alaska. With their family, they also enjoyed traveling with their camper and spending time at the river on their boat. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Michael Hall and Charles Hall (Arlene), both of Houston; a grandson, Robert Wasalasky (Rebecca); two great-granddaughters, Madison and Chloe Wasalasky; brother, Robert Spittka of Washington; sister-in-law, Imogene McElhaney (Wayne) of Houston; two brothers- in-law, Richard Hall (Terri) of Washington, and Robert Hall (Stacy) of Houston; and many nieces and nephews. A brother-in-law, Edward Hall, is deceased. Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 23, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, February 24. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, where full military rites will be accorded by the Honor Guard from VFW Post #191 in Canonsburg. My deepest condolences to Janice, the entire Spittka and Hall families for your loss.
I knew Carl from his early days when he worked at the original Canon Bowl and later at CONSOL Energy. He was intelligent with an excellent mechanical mind. He had an awesome sense of humor and an infectious smile.
He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. RIP
