Carol Gilbert Obituary

Carol Jean DePaoli Gilbert, 70, of Eighty Four, died Saturday, May 3, 2025, after triumphing in her eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer. A faithful servant, even in her last breaths on earth she gave thanks to God, knowing that she was victorious through the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57). She was born June 18, 1954, in Washington, a daughter of William and Shirley Cox Depaoli. Carol Jean was a hairdresser for 45 years and delighted in making people look and feel beautiful. She styled hair for several Hollywood movie sets, including the locally-filmed Silence of the Lambs. Additionally, she drove a school bus for the Canon-McMillan School District for 20 years, transporting children safely to and from school each day. Carol Jean was an avid gardener and cook and shared her talents with all those who entered her home, whether by offering the fruits of her garden as part of a home-cooked meal or by welcoming people to sit on her porch and rest. Indeed, those who were welcomed into her home always found it to be a place of respite and warmth. Carol Jean also loved traveling and exploring new places near and far, with some of her more recent adventures being excursions to Italy, Croatia, Russia and Greece. She also was passionate about reading and never left home without at least one book. If not gardening, cooking or reading, Carol Jean was likely perfecting her golf swing. Carol Jean rejoiced in life and loved all people, and those who knew her could rest in her peaceful presence. She was a faithful member of the South Hills Bible Chapel and attended many Bible studies. On March 16, 2024, she married her loving husband Robert Gilbert, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, James (Melanie) Paulick; daughter, Amy (Bob) Miller; sisters, Sherry (Jim) Brown, Cheryl (Louis) Fonagy; grandchildren, Sophia, Jacob and Mary Paulick, and Scarlett, Roman and William Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of a service, Wednesday, May 7, in the South Hills Bible Chapel, 300 Gallery Drive, McMurray, PA 15317. Arrangements are entrusted to Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to Compassion International or the Washington City Mission. My deepest sympathy in the loss of Carol Jean. Growing up in a big family like ours - attending Cox Family Reunions for so many years - we all have lasting memories. Our family of Surow girls played with the DePaoli girls during our many visits to Arden, and we cherish those fun, innocent times. I pray that your loving memories will comfort you during this difficult time. Love, Joyce
