Catherine Dunn Obituary

Catherine Torrence "Cassie" Dunn passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2025. She was born at home on Brehm Road, in North Strabane Township, to the late Calister M. and Catherine McKay Vallet. Catherine attended schools in North Strabane Township and attended East Washington High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, David Boyd Dunn. Catherine and David were married February 4, 1957, and shared over 63 years of marriage before his passing September 5, 2020. Her greatest joy in life was raising her four children, David (Karen) Dunn, Kimberly (Dennis Mounts) McDonough, Donald (Juli) Dunn, and Kelly Harvison. Added to her life were those she loved dearly and who enhanced her life, including nieces, Denise (John) Curti, Susan (Adrian) Price, Janet (John) Steede; nephew, Philip E. Vallet; and very special friends who always supported and cared for her: Dr. Alvin (Lisa) Murn; and special cousins, Ron (Valerie) Rose, and Ed (Teresa) Lewis. After their children were grown and created successful lives, Catherine was privileged to spend several years as a volunteer for the Pennsylvania National Guard Family Program. Additionally, she continued volunteer service and participated in Joint Military service organizations in family support groups becoming a co-founder of the Joint Forces of Western Pennsylvania that included members of all branches of service. Catherine was a motivational speaker for family members across the state whose loved ones were about to be deployed. Honored for her time and service, with her husband, David, they were guests at the White House to join in the George W. Bush's Points of Light Celebration. Catherine also received the Pennsylvania Commendation Medal. After years of volunteer service, Catherine was employed as the administrator of the Washington County Branch of the American Red Cross until her retirement, and was grateful for the opportunity. In addition to her husband and her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her brothers, Philip and Calister Vallet; and sister-in-law, Norma Vallet. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 2, in Sollon Funeral and Cremation Service, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 3. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to the Concordia Hospice of Washington Donnell House, 10 Leet Street, Washington, PA 15301, in Catherine Dunn's name.
