Charles Grim Obituary

Charles Edward "Ed" Grim, 87, of Mount Morris (Davistown), Pa., died Tuesday, May 20, 2025, following a lengthy illness. Born in Greensboro on March 25, 1938, he was a son of the late Reuben and Hazel Katherine "Kate" Darr Grim. A 1956 graduate of Mapletown High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran who honorably served with the 101st. Airborne Division. Ed worked at the Shannopin Mine in Bobtown, and was retired from Cumberland Mine where he was a shift foreman. After retirement, he volunteered for more than 20 years at the Mount Morris American Legion, where he served as bar manager, finance officer, and assisted with the funeral detail. A daily fixture there, Ed made many lasting friends who became like family to him. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penn State Football, and NASCAR. He even had a room where he displayed all his Dale Earnhardt memorabilia, and enjoyed showing it to his friends. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Helen Petak on April 18, 2018. Also deceased are brothers, Lee, William, Woodrow, and Elizabeth Grim. Surviving are his two children, Sherri Grim of Davistown, and John Grim and wife Lisa of Dilliner; four grandchildren and their spouses, Nichole Kullman (Matt), New Ulm, Texas, John Grim, II (Lacey) of Davistown, Charles Grim (Marley) of Kernersville, NC and Lambert Grim (Anna) of Davistown; eight great-grandchildren, Adeline Kullman, Leanne, Burton, Elliot, Zephlyn, Jack, Haylen and Lennyn Grim; a sister Mary Radliff of Mount Morris; a brother Russell Grim and wife Vicki of Morgantown, W.Va.; and many friends The family will receive friends in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Tuesday, May 27th, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, from 10 to 11 a.m. hour of service, with Rev. Ed Hanley officiating. Interment follows in Garards Fort Cemetery, with military honors accorded by his friends in the Greene County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to the Mount Morris American Legion, P.O. Box 287, Mount Morris, PA 15349. www.herod-rishel.com

Frank smith , my husband, and Ed worked together for years at Cumberland mine . Frank got his job as shift forman. After Ed retired They stayed friends , kept in contact . Nice guy he will be missed. Sadly Frank passed away jan 13 2025 . They are in heaven still mining coal together and dancing to the oldies
