Charles Edward Monticello

Charles Edward "Chuck" Monticello, 68, of Avella, passed away Saturday morning, August 9, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones at the family farm. He was born on November 19, 1956 in Washington, PA, son of the late Peter William Monticello Jr. and Alice Louella Huff Monticello. From a young age it was clear that Chuck was gifted with music. He started playing the fiddle at age seven and won numerous awards and trophies throughout his life. At the age of fourteen, he founded the Mountain Express Square Dance Band. Chuck was a 1974 graduate of Avella High School; he then received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from West Liberty University in 1978 and went on to earn his Master's Degree. Immediately following his graduation in 1978 he moved to Beallsville, Ohio and began his career teaching at Beallsville High School. During his 39 years there he was the marching band director and taught various subjects, but his focus was music. After his retirement in 2017 he moved back to the family farm in Avella, PA. Chuck was a member of Grove United Presbyterian Church in West Middletown and was also involved with the West Middletown Christian Church, where he would deliver Sunday morning messages. Surviving are his sister, Diana Donaldson and her husband Gary of Avella; nephew, Daniel McGuier; his Godson, Erin, Dobbins of Juno, Alaska; and many great- nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents are a brother, Peter William Monticello III; a nephew, Charles McGuire; and a niece, Peggi Jean Keenan. Friends and family will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, and from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, with Pastor Gary Gibson and Pastor Rich Narus officiating. Burial will be in the family plot in West Middletown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the West Middletown Christian Church.
