1933
2020
On December 22, 2020, Douglas F. Schultz Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born December 3, 1933, the first son of Jack and Jessie Schultz, Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather "Pap", great-grandfather "Big Pap", coach, mentor and best friend to many.
He is survived by his wife and one and only love, Shirley, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage; and his children, Douglas Jr. (Michelle), Pamela (Chuck) Nagy, Stephen (Melissa) and Karl (Tracey).
He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Keith.
In addition to his children, Doug was proud of his "tribe" of 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. His greatest wish was for each of them to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and meet him in Heaven. He never missed an opportunity to teach them of the importance of leading a Christian life.
Doug is also survived by his brother, Jack (Elaine); sisters Patricia (Warren) Crawfis, Deanna (Richard) Meloy, Karen (Albert) Carder; and many nieces and nephews.
Upon his death, tributes from his children and grandchildren, friends far and wide, his church families and men he coached as young boys have provided insight to the great and impactful life Doug led and the legacy he left. He touched many people through the years and proved to be an unforgettable force.
For many years, Doug was a football coach for midget football in "Wolfdale". We have heard from many of his players that they are forever thankful to have had his influence in their lives.
Doug's career spanned many decades in the specialty steel industry, most notably NABCO, where he learned his trade. After his retirement, he continued to work to this day with his son at Schultz Electric.
He had many hobbies and passions, although none greater than his passion for his faith. He was a devoted member of Abundant Life Baptist Church.
Doug and Shirley spent many years traveling across America, hitting most of the 50 states, with his favorite being Alaska, and Wyoming as a close second. He and his family started vacationing in Nags Head, N.C., in a tent and pop-up trailer in 1965 and this became a family tradition they shared for more than 50 years (although accommodations became much better over the years) and one that his children and grandchildren carry on today.
He was an avid reader and lifelong student spending hours understanding the writings of Oswald Chambers and American history. He was an avid gardener, growing the most beautiful flowers and trees, and always made sure all the birds in Western Pennsylvania were well fed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in honor of Doug to Abundant Life Baptist Church, the Washington City Mission or another charity of one's choice to help those in need.
