George A. Bernett, Jr., 71, of Washington, died Monday, November 20, 2023, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born December 28, 1951, in Latrobe, a son of George A. Bernett, Sr., and Ruth E. Dunn Bernett.
A 1969 graduate of Washington High School, he was a stone cutter for more than 50 years and the owner/operator of Moreland Burial Vault Company.
George served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a radio operator during Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1971.
He was a member of American Legion Post 175. He enjoyed gambling and playing poker with his buddies and had a great sense of humor. George loved his job, and being outside, more than anything. He was an avid football fan, especially the Wash High Prexies, and coached girls' basketball at Clark School for 16 years.
On January 30, 1970, George married Nancy L. Jones, who survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Lisa McMullen; a son, Christopher C. Bernett (Jennifer); a brother, John "Scott" Bernett (Kim); sisters, Sharon L. Houston (Ron), and Janice S. Jones (the late Rea); three grandchildren, whom George adored, Chelsea Baker (Ben), Maddie Bernett, and Tyler Bernett; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Ann Jones; and brother, Rick Bernett.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 26, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 27.
Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 175 and the USMC.

Nancy and family; So sorry to learn of my high school buddy's passing. We had some good times back in the day. We always seemed to have something going on. Good memories of his Dad's 66 Impala. "Hey Glenn, I got the car tonite" ---- "Cool! Let's cruise" 3 on the tree but still fast! Great memories.
