Gerald Cleve Denny

Gerald Cleve Denny, 78, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in the Donnell House in Washington. He was born September 5, 1945, in Jefferson, Greene County, a son of the late Viola Wilkinson and Frank Mitchell Denny. Jerry graduated from Jefferson-Morgan High School in 1965. He worked as a brick mason and a coal miner. He worked for RG Johnson and he retired in 2008, from Emerald Mine, as a Foreman of the Belt line. Gerald was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lippencott. Jerry was a member of the National Pike Steam, Gas, and Horse Association. He enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors and participating in Plowdays. He loved cars, motorcycles, tinkering in the garage and restoring and painting tractors and cars. He proudly served as a Ranger in the United States 7th Army in the Vietnam War. He was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal Marksman (Rifle). On August 28, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Louise JoAnn Burnfield, who died on July 29, 2012. Surviving are a son, Michael Denny and wife, Diana of Carmichaels; a daughter, Lisa Joan Denny Crosier and husband, William, of East Washington; two grandchildren, Benjamin William Denny Crosier and wife, Chelsea, of Shepherdsville, Ky., and Kenzie Louise Denny; two great-grandchildren, Theodore Crosier and Evelyn Crosier; and a brother, Jack Denny. Deceased are a son, Kenneth Brian Denny; a brother, Herbert Denny; and sisters, Gloria Granus and Shirley Leonard. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
