Gladys B. Hunt, cherished matriarch of her family, and the sixth of seven children, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the age of 91. She was born to Walter C. and Elsie Reneman Brogdon in May of 1934. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Gladys graduated from Ashville High School, class of 1953, in Alabama. After high school, she was employed by the GE Plant in Anniston, Ala. While visiting Tip Top Creamery, a well-known ice cream shoppe, she met the love of her life, Robert B. Hunt. They were married for over 71 years. Gladys had a deep relationship with Jesus, a special love for her church family and a heartfelt appreciation for the friendships she built through The Claysville Christian Church, The Covered Bridge Artisans, the Red Hat Society, The Claysville Homemakers, and beyond. Gladys truly lived in connection with her community. She never met a stranger. She loved to converse with everyone she encountered. Her southern charm, vibrant spirit, and genuine interest in others created lasting friendships. With a passion for learning, Gladys studied art by correspondence and taught herself to read music, eventually playing both the guitar and piano with joy. A devoted homemaker, artist, and Den Mother with the Cub Scouts, she poured her creativity and care into every corner of her life. Gladys was an avid collector of various items that caught her eye. If she wasn't in church on Sunday, she was at the flea market, yard sales, or looking for a bargain. Gladys also loved capturing friends, family, and still life on her camera, making many photo albums over the years, as well as bringing her photos to life through watercolor paintings. She was a self-employed seamstress and tailor for many years, yet another skill she learned and tirelessly perfected. In her later years, she brought that same dedication to her work at JoAnn Fabrics and Wal-Mart. She is survived by her husband, Robert; sons, Robert (Sue) Hunt of Claysville and Kenneth "Lee" Hunt of North Huntington; grandchildren: Amanda "Amy" (Peter) McCracken, Jessica (Aaron) Finch, Eran Scozzaro and Andrew Hunt; and five great-grandchildren survive her. In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by sisters, Mildred and Julia; and brothers: Jerry, R. Donovan, Neal and James. Friends and family will be received from 3 pm to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 20, at The Claysville Christian Church, Church Street, Claysville, PA 15323. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, at the church. Interment to follow at Claysville Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 219 Main Street, Claysville, PA 15323. 724-663-7373.
