Howard D. Dunmire Sr.

Howard D. Dunmire, Sr., 90, of Monongahela, passed away on Thursday August 7, 2025 at the Residence at Hilltop, Monongahela. Born on September 23, 1934 in Monongahela, he was a son of the late Walter and Burnetta Raynal Dunmire. A graduate of Monongahela High School, he continued his education until he earned his Masters in Education from California State College. In 1956 he married Colleen Ballentyne with whom he shared 54 years. He began his teaching career working at various schools around the area eventually retiring from the Gateway School District in 1979. Following his teaching career, he worked for various contractors starting with Frank Irey Construction Company until he retired from Handy Man Matters in Monongahela. A member of the First Baptist Church in Monongahela, Howard was also a life member of the Valley Inn V.F.D serving as past treasurer. He served on the board of directors at the Washington Co. Agricultural Fair and belonged to the Dutch Rabbit Association. He began his love for Walt Disney World while working for Irey Construction taking numerous trips with his wife and family over the years, most recently at the age of 89. Later in life he married Patricia Richards with whom he shared 11 years. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Howard Jr. (Joy) and Jeffrey (Ann) Dunmire of Monongahela, Robert W. (Becky) Dunmire of Oxford, NC; a daughter Judy Miller of Washington. He had six grandchildren Dennis (Barbara) Dunmire, Jenna (Brandon) Lewis, Taylor (Stacy) Dunmire, Shane Dunmire, and Kara Dunmire (Alex Adams), and Colton Miller. He also had eight great-grandchildren Grayson, Liam, Clayton, Theo, Delilah, Laila, Piper and Parker. He was preceded in death by his first wife Colleen Dunmire who passed away June 13, 2010 and his second wife Patricia Richards Dunmire, a son-in-law Harry Miller, a brother Walter "Bud" Dunmire and a sister Ruth (Walter) Powazki. Friends will be received at the Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela (724-258-6767), from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday August 11th, where services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Ken Kirby officiating.
