Ida Cecchini Obituary

Ida "Edie" Cecchini, 88, of Avella, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017, in Premier of Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

She was born January 28, 1929, in Avella, a daughter of the late Cesare and Mary Falleroni Campanelli.

Mrs. Cecchini was a 1946 graduate of Avella High School.

She was a homemaker and had worked at numerous stores in the Avella area.

Mrs. Cecchini was a lifelong resident of Avella and was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church and the church's Christian Mothers, Athletics Inc. Auxiliary and American Legion Bert C. Siders Post 643 Ladies Auxiliary, all of Avella.

She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed going to sporting events to support her grandchildren.

On December 2, 1950, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, she married Lee "Punto" Cecchini, who died May 12, 2016.

Surviving are two sons, Lee M. (Melanie) Cecchini of Wellsburg, W.Va., and David (Rita) Cecchini of Avella; two daughters, Peggy Midler of Avella and Laurie (Mark) Clarkson of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Chris Cecchini, Erika Cecchini, Ashley (Ryan) Sperlazza, Anthony (Heidi) Cecchini, Bernadette (Craig) Saylor, David (Melissa) Cecchini, David (Sarah) Midler, Alicia (Kevin) Doffing, Jenna Midler (David Southall), Johnny Midler and Jacob Clarkson; 13 great-grandchildren, Antonio, Sophia, Santino, Amelia, Ethan, Samantha, Kai, Blake, Andi, David, Edith, McKinley and Kian; a sister, Marie Kampian of Midway; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a granddaughter, Erin Christine Cecchini; four brothers, Emedio, John, Anthony and Ray Campanelli; a sister, Norma Somplatsky; and an infant brother, Jimmy Campanelli.

Friends and family will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 28, in St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 97 Highland Avenue, Avella, PA 15312, with the Rev. Robert M. Staszewski as celebrant. A private interment will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the activity center at Premier of Washington County Health Center, with checks made payable to Premier Activities, 36 Old Hickory Ridge Road, Washington, PA 15301, or to Cedar Grove Park, 28 Clark Avenue, Avella, PA 15312.

Sincere sympathy to the Cecchini Family. I remember Edith as a loving and caring person. She was very supportive of me as a new teacher at Avella High School back in 1969. Love to her family.
