J. Douglas Cowieson, 73, of Washington, passed away, in his home, February 6, 2023. Born January 21, 1950, he was a son of the late Beldonna B. And Graham P. Cowieson.
He was a loving father to Jay (Karen) Cowieson of Houston, Texas, Jill (Dr. Robert) Daniels of Washington, and Graham (Alexis) Cowieson of Canonsburg; grandfather to seven beautiful grandchildren, who always brought a smile to his face, Lauren, Brody and Madeline Cowieson, Logan, Lexi and Lucas Daniels, and Cohen Cowieson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, C. Graham Cowieson.
Doug was a professional figure skater who also coached, taught and judged figure skating. He enjoyed all sports, especially coaching several of his children's sports teams. One of Doug's proudest coaching moments was when he was the manager of the 1985 Pony League World Series team who were runners up that year. Later in life, there is nothing he enjoyed more than watching his grandchildren play sports.
Doug was a 1968 graduate of Washington High School, later earning his bachelor's degree from California University of Pennsylvania.
He began his career as a teacher in Ohio before attending The Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He became a licensed Funeral Director, and ended his career in sales.
Doug was a proud U.S. Army National Guard veteran, honorably discharged in 1975. He was a member of First Christian Church of Washington, where he served as an elder.
