Jacqueline Long Sawa

Jacqueline Long Sawa, 93, of Glenshaw, formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 6, 2025, in Glenshaw. Born Mary Jacqueline Long May 12, 1932, in Pittsburgh, to Earl Louis Long and Anna Mary Klein Long, Jacqueline's life was one of devotion to family, service to the community, and love. Growing up in the Pennsylvania towns of Pittsburgh, Fellsburg and Donora, Jacqueline graduated from Donora High School in 1950. As a spirited cheerleader, she was present during the infamous "1948 Donora Smog" incident. After high school, she became the head bookkeeper at the Donora branch of Mellon Bank. On February 6, 1954, Jacqueline married her high school sweetheart, Stanley W. Sawa. Together they embarked on a life journey to Butler, where Jacqueline wholeheartedly embraced her community and served as an active, committed volunteer to many organizations and initiatives. She is survived by her loving son, James Patrick Sawa and wife Anne of Glenshaw; cherished granddaughter, Abigail Sawa and partner Jason of Pittsburgh; and many nephews and nieces. Jacqueline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley, who passed away on their 31st wedding anniversary, February 6, 1985; her parents; her sister, June Margaret Long Kent; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, in All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin Street, Butler. Burial will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Donora. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Butler Area Public Library, 218 N. McKean Street, Butler, PA 16001, in memory of Jacqueline and her love for reading. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Martin Funeral Home Downtown, 201 E. Cunningham Street, Butler.
