Jacqueline Sawa Obituary

Jacqueline Long Sawa, 93, of Glenshaw, Pa., formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, in Glenshaw.
Born Mary Jacqueline Long on May 12, 1932, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter to Earl Louis Long and Anna Mary Klein Long. Jacqueline's life was one of devotion to family, service to the community and love.
Growing up in the Pennsylvania towns of Pittsburgh, Fellsburg and Donora, Jacqueline graduated from Donora High School in 1950. As a spirited cheerleader, she was present during the infamous "Donora Smog" incident. After high school, she became the head bookkeeper at the Donora branch of Mellon Bank, showing her meticulous nature and dedication.
On Feb. 6, 1954, Jacqueline married her high school sweetheart, Stanley W. Sawa. Together they embarked on a life journey to Butler, where Jacqueline wholeheartedly embraced her community. She volunteered as a teacher's aide at Center Township Elementary School, was an active member of the YWCA Ladies Auxiliary and shared her faith as a Sunday school teacher at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. Her commitment to the Butler school system extended to volunteering at various activities, always eager to lend a helping hand.
Jacqueline always gave selflessly of her time and talents and liked helping people. She found joy in traveling, exploring new worlds through books, cooking, gardening, musical theater and knitting Christmas stockings for loved ones. One of her greatest joys later in life was spending time with her granddaughter, Abigail.
She is survived by her loving son, James Patrick Sawa and his wife, Anne, of Glenshaw; cherished granddaughter, Abigail Sawa and her partner, Jason, of Pittsburgh; and many nephews and nieces, all of whom will treasure the memories of her warmth and kindness.
Jacqueline was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley, who passed away on their 31st wedding anniversary, Feb. 6, 1985; her parents; her sister, June Margaret Long Kent; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
SAWA - Visitation will be private for Jacqueline Long Sawa, who died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at All Saints Parish, St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, with the Rev. Phil White, OFM, Cap., officiating.
Burial will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, 49 2nd St. Extension, Donora, Pa.

Dear Jamie and family,
You have my deepest sympathy. Your mom was one of the kindest ladys I have ever met. She carried herself with grace and elegance wherever she went. I am blessed to have known her and will cherish the memories I have of her.
