I think of novels unread, friends with fewer conversations, and golf championships left unwatched are just a few life events caused by a year without one Jim Carroll. In school, JMC encouraged students to think and be respectful of all opinions. He hoped to inspire and motivate more reading. I remember his stories of pride about his wife, daughter, and son. He positively and permanently touched the lives of so many who miss him this past year and will do so for many years to come. In his gentle ways, he accomplished so much.

Jim was such a nice person.
Enjoyed the few times I golfed with him.
Seeing him and Donna at the club was always a pleasure.

Sam Snoote would say it was quite a ride. The legendary tales of the first winning season after the merger, the smell of the cigars from the teachers lounge, the hollow feel to the metal trailers that you made a bunch of your career out of, and that list on the wall where I chose to go only one other person from your classrooms had ever gone. It was great to be in your classroom the school year after we did the unthinkable 30 years ago, and it was great for many years to bump into you and reminisce.

JMC Thank you!! You affected my life positively! May you rest in Peace! May the Comma Code rest with you, and while we've had a few days pass with you departed from this earth, it will always be a great day to be a Highlander.

I was in the same senior English class as Karen Gray and she summarized my thoughts almost exactly.

Mr.Carroll was my all time favorite teacher! He made learning fun. My husband met him years later when they both decided to stop smoking and he talked about this nice man he met. I´ve thought of Mr. Carroll over the years and how he influenced my life. My sympathy to his family.

Mr Carroll was one of my favorite teachers growing up, and I felt lucky to have had him. This was a common sentiment from his students. Hard to appreciate how many lives he touched and the positive impact he made. His was a life not wasted. My condolences.

Mr. Carroll was a memorable senior English teacher. The "comma code" lives! We had a cake on Shakespeare´s birthday. He surely had 100% accurate personality assessments after reading our required journals. Sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great influence.

Mr. Carroll was a "teacher´s teacher". He not only inspired his other students and me, but he also served as a mentor for me to go on to treat my students in the kind and encouraging manner that he used with me. We, his students, are extremely fortunate to have had him in our lives.
