James DeVitis Obituary

James M. "Jim" DeVitis, 64, of Houston, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014, in Greenery Specialty Care Center, Canonsburg, following an extended illness.
He was born March 10, 1950, a son of the late John H. Sr. and Jeanette Delfine DeVitis.
Mr. DeVitis lived in the Hickory area for most of his life.
He was Catholic.
Mr. DeVitis was a 1968 graduate of Fort Cherry High School, where he excelled in wrestling and football, and a 1973 graduate of West Liberty State College.
He was a retired self-employed carpenter and antiques dealer.
Mr. DeVitis was an avid reader, who loved animals and enjoyed weekly poker games with his friends.
He was a member of American Legion Post 902, Houston.
Surviving are a son, Joshua DeVitis of Toms River, N.J.; a sister, Carol DeVitis of Hickory; a brother, John H. (Sandra) DeVitis Jr. of Hickory; a nephew, John S. (Dawn) DeVitis; a niece, Angela (Doug) Minton; a great-niece; a great-nephew; and many cousins.
Friends are welcome from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, Lin Web, funeral director, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with the Rev. Carmen D'Amico as celebrant. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.

I haven't seen Jimmy in years but we graduated together in '68 from FC. Even after all the years that have passed I remember him fondly as such a sweet and wonderful person. He was one of the good guys. RIP Jim
