James Hartley Obituary

With heavy hearts the family of James Harold Hartley, beloved husband, father, and friend, announce his passing Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the age of 84. James was born August 20, 1939, in Mt. Morris, to Edward and Thelma Hartley. Although his first name was James, he always went by his middle name, Harold. Harold met the love of his life, Margaret, in 1968, and they were married the same year. Together, they raised two children, James Michael and Rodney. Harold was a devoted father, always putting his family first and instilling in his children the values of integrity, kindness, and perseverance. His wisdom, gentle guidance, and unwavering support will be dearly missed. In his retirement, Harold found joy in farming, mechanics, and repairing/restoring cars. He started as a bus driver for the schools in Perry Township. He then became a member of the United Mine Workers of America, where he devoted most of his life to driving trucks and working for the coal industry. Harold is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his children, James Michael, and Rodney (Joe); two brothers, Carl (Shirley), and John (Kaye); and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Thelma. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, graveside, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 110 Hobbs Run Road, Mt. Morris, PA 15349.
