Joanne Curry Obituary

Joanne W. Curry, 91, of Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Lone Pine, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Wednesday, September 10, 2025. She was born in Marianna August 24, 1934, to the late Hobert and Vadis Sears Williams. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mom, grandma, and friend to many. In 1951, she married the love of her life, Vaughn Byron Curry, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage before his passing in 2020. She is survived by their children, Leeanne Strimel (Brad), Cindi Hill (John), Tracy B. Curry (Andrea), and Mark D. Curry; their grandchildren, Eric Strimel (Jessica), Jillian Schneider (Bub), Jennifer Preston (Brian), Jake Hill (Leslie), Clayton Hill (Lauren), Leah Pope (Rob), Nathan Curry (Catherine), Nick Curry, Alex Curry, Ashley Curry, and Cole Curry. She and her husband were also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a sister-in-law, Shirley Curry, as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jerry Stephens, Madeline Orbin, Merle Mock, Maxine Rose, and Hobart D. "Junior" Williams Jr. Joanne earned her GED and then attended California State College, now known as Pennsylvania Western University, where she received her Bachelor's degree and then a Master's in English. She loved education and worked for over 20 years teaching high school English in the Virginia Beach schools. Joanne loved her Lord and was a member of the Lone Pine Christian Church and later the Bayside Christian Church, where she served on several committees. She was an avid reader who loved to read everything and was passionate about genealogy. Joanne was a member of the Washington County Chapter of DAR. There will be a private graveside service.
