John McCartney Obituary

September 14, 1949 - April 25, 2025 John "Pee Wee" McCartney, 75, of Jefferson, died Friday, April 25, 2025, in his home. He was born September 14, 1949, in Briar Hill, a son of the late Samuel Sr. and Anna Birch McCartney. Pee Wee was a retired maintenance worker for PennDOT and lived most his life in the Clarksville and Jefferson areas. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Ranger. He was also a former member and past chief of the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company. On July 24, 1971, he married Thelma Jean McCartney, who died April 25, 2022 Pee Wee is survived by one son, Kirk (Vicki) McCartney of Clarksville; a daughter-in-law, Genea (John) McCartney of Mather; five grandchildren, Rebecca (fianc Hunter) McCartney, Brandon Simpson, Krista McCartney, Cory McCartney, Gage (Amanda) McCartney; two great-grandchildren; one sibling, Pat (Butch) Shumaker of Clarksville; sister-in-law Robin Grimm of Blairsville; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, John (Genea) McCartney; stepson, Jerry Rex; brothers, George (Betty) McCartney, Samuel McCartney Jr.; sisters, Jessie (Alvie) Campbell, Shirley (Don) Roush, Pearl McKenna; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Cindy) Rex, William "Joe" (Darlene) Rex, and James D. "Jimmy" Rex. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, in the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company, 1483 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
