Josephine V. Pyle, 105, of Johnstown, formerly of Washington, died Thursday, August 29, 2019, in Laurel Wood Care Center, Johnstown.
She was born July 8, 1914, in McDonald, a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine VanGysel.
Mrs. Pyle was a 1932 graduate of McDonald High School.
In 1979, she retired from the Pennsylvania Employment Office after more than 35 years. She also volunteered at the Washington Hospital for many years.
Mrs. Pyle was a member of the ladies of the Elks and the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a past worthy matron. She was also a player and the treasurer of the Elks dartball league for many years.
In August of 1958, in Bedford, she married John Willis Pyle, who died November 11, 1964.
Surviving are a daughter, Bonnie Jo Cousins (Tom) Shannon, of Johnstown; two grandsons, John (Teri) and Mark (Juli) Shannon; five great-grandchildren, Brad Shannon, Amanda (A.J.) Milanak, Jessica (Brian) Johnson, Kelly (Stephen) Bowers, and Katie Shannon; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Joseph and Alphonse Van Gysel.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Tuesday, in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, with the Reverend Scott Shetter officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to either Grane Hospice, 260 Alpha Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238, or the Elks Foundation, www.elks.org.
