Keith McCully Obituary

Keith F. McCully, 97, of Southmont of Presbyterian Seniorcare, Washington, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025. He was born in Curwensville January 28, 1928, a son of the late Marguerite H. and Howard B. McCully. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served for two years in the South Pacific Theater achieving the rank of Sergeant with an Honorable Discharge in 1947, and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. He enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police in 1951 achieving the rank of captain. Captain McCully served in many stations in Western Pennsylvania. He was promoted to corporal in 1962, sergeant in 1965, lieutenant in 1971, and captain in 1976. In 1975, he was selected to attend the 102nd Session of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Va. In 1977, Captain McCully was assigned as the commanding officer of Troop B, Washington, at which position he retired from in December of 1987. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at Sunset Lodge No. 623 Free and Accepted Masons in Washington, having received a 60-year pin in 2017. On July 30, 1955, he married the love of his life, Almeda Jane "Speedie" Griffiths, who passed in 2023 after 67 years of marriage. Also deceased is a brother, Harrington McCully; and sisters, Delphine Williams, Betty Leonard, and Barbara Johnston. He is survived by a son, Kenneth M. McCully (Carla) of Brunswick, Ga.; daughters, Kathleen M. (Peter) Cameron of Washington, and Karen M. (Jim) Geiger of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Carissa (Shane) Lawson, Gretchen, Corey, Patrick (Thomas Sun) and Devin (Miranda) Cameron, Benjamin and Derek Geiger; great- grandchildren, Conner and Caitlin Lawson, Grayson and Ivylyn Nickel, Corbin, Callie, Kinlee, Blake, Andi and Guinevere Cameron. Captain McCully was an avid hunter, fisherman, and family man, and delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He impacted many people both personally and professionally. He will be greatly missed. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 12, in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at E. Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, owner / supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, director, Holly Renay Warco, director. Additional visitation will be held in the funeral home from 10 until the 11 a.m. hour of a funeral service Saturday, September 13. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, where full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 and the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Washington County Sheriff's Office Canine Fund, 95 W.
