Kendall Scott "Fireball" Phillips, 56, of Elizabeth, formerly of Farmington, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 10, 2018, in UPMC-Presbyterian hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born February 11, 1962, in Waynesburg, he was a son of Connie M. Tharp Phillips of Waynesburg and the late Samuel L. Phillips.
Kendall was a 1981 graduate of Waynesburg Central High School, where he was very active in the school band as a drummer. He was also a drummer in the "Keepin' it Country" band and also shared his musical talents with his church family at New Life Covenant Church of God in Markleysburg and Rolling Meadows Church of God in Waynesburg.
On November 26, 1988, he married the love of his life, Vickie K. Hall Phillips, who survives. While the couple resided in Farmington, he cared for hogs, cattle, chickens and his favorite horse he fondly called Brutus. The Phillips' farm was referred to as "Phillips Hide-a-way" and it provided them with years of happiness that their children and grandchildren now enjoy.
Kendall's career spanned over 20 plus years as a property assessor for Allegheny and Fayette counties. At the time of his death, he was employed by Allegheny County and had obtained the master level in Pennsylvania as a certified property assessor. Kendall had a passion for teaching others in his profession and was a mentor to other property assessors in Pennsylvania.
He had remained very active in his church life and ministry. He was a dynamic member of the men's ministry and served as a Sunday School teacher. He was quick to volunteer for his church's needs, showing up happy with his sense of humor and smile, which he was known for. While a former member of Rolling Meadows Church of God, at the time of his death, he was a member of New Life Covenant Church of God, where he also served as a royal ranger commander.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 29 years and his mother, are two children, Kamber Dawn (Josh Fisher) Phillips and Russell Scott (Brittany) Phillips, both of Farmington; three grandchildren, Alena and Emma Fisher and Caleb Phillips of Farmington; grandmother Lucille Tharp of Waynesburg; three sisters, Beth (Bruce) Kline of Elton, Md., Traci J. (Jim) Ketchem of Jefferson and Becky L. Phillips of Waynesburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home LLC., 3275 West Roy Furman Highway, Rogersville, 724-499-5181, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, with Pastor Doug Bowers and Pastor Richard Berkey officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Phillips Cemetery, Spraggs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
