Leon DeSantis Obituary

Leon P. DeSantis, 88, of Washington, died Saturday, August 11, 2018, in Manor Care Health Services, Peters Township, following a brief illness.

He was born January 5, 1930, in West Hartford, Conn.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Mr. DeSantis DJ'd with Porky Chadwick at Willow Beach swimming pool. He was also a professional diver and roller skater.

Mr. DeSantis went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1960 during the Korean War, where he was wounded in action. He received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged.

He later went on to work for the city of Washington for 44 years as the parking meter man. He loved working for the city of Washington and took great pride in his profession.

Mr. DeSantis was very active in the community and when the city needed him he was always there. He was a member of Moose Lodge 22, loved baseball and fishing with his friends. He also enjoyed going to flea markets on the weekend. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are a daughter, Christine F. Provance of Washington; three brothers, Gene, John and James; a sister, Christine (Thomas) Belletti; two grandchildren, Justin and Chasity Provance; and six great-grandchildren, Naadia, J.R., Kingston, Ashyha, Gabby and Maximus; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Thomas, and by a sister, Shirley.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m., the hour of a funeral service, Tuesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, with Pastor Don Waltermyer Jr. officiating. Entombment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mary Mother of the Church Mausoleum, McMurray. All are welcome to attend.

Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the U.S. Army.
