Lewis P. "Lew" Strosnider Sr., 76, a lifelong resident of Walnut Hill, Dilliner, died Monday, February 11, 2019, in Horizon Personal Care Home, Fairchance, following a lengthy illness.
Born September 26, 1942, in Walnut Hill, he was a son of the late William Luther and Amelia Lucille Everly Strosnider.
Following his service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict, Lew was employed as a police officer in Washington, D.C. He returned to Greene County and entered the coal mines, retiring from Cumberland Mine, and was a member of the United Mineworkrs of America. As a child, he and his family were very active in the former Faith Church of the Nazarene in Greensboro.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Barbara Bishop Strosnider; three children, Lewis Strosnider Jr. and wife DeeDee of Dilliner, Stephanie Cordray and husband Bernie of Hagins, W.Va., and Charlene Marie Moody-Strosnider and John Kinsley of Morgantown, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Haylee, Kaylee, Lewis III, Ryan, Derek and Emily; and three sisters, Nancy Hanford, Linda Goeble and Renee Bates.
Deceased are two brothers, William and Ernest Strosnider, and three sisters, Gladys Paris, Ailene Meintel and Sharon Keener.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, and from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, Saturday, February 16, with the Rev. Mike Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Wolf's Cemetery, Dilliner, with military honors accorded graveside by the Point Marion Veterans Posts.
