Martin Gerald Johns Sr.

Dr. Martin Gerald Johns Sr., 89, of Peters Township, passed away Friday, December 17, 2021.

He was the beloved husband for 43 years of Dr. Barbara Klinghoffer Johns; loving father of Dr. Martin (Gretchen) Johns of New Castle and Julia Johns of Peters Township; grandfather of Tripp, Shane, Eliana, Kiersten, Henry and Evelyn Johns of New Castle, and Tyler and Mason Sanders of Kittanning.

Originally from the Homewood section of Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Albert and Margaret Johns and the brother of Margaret Donovan and Dr. Jerome Johns.

He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Johns; brothers, Albert, David and Francis Johns; and sister, Noreen Krzan.

He is also survived by 32 nieces and nephews along with their spouses and children.

Dr. Johns was a graduate of St. Vincent's Preparatory School and Georgetown University and its dental school. He served in the Air Force Dental Corp, achieving a rank of captain and then practiced general dentistry for 40 years with offices in Library and downtown Pittsburgh.

In everything, his family came first, and he set that defining characteristic as a strong example to all his relatives. He was an avid skier and golfer and taught many to love those sports as well. He strongly valued education, sending his children along with many nieces and nephews through college and graduate schools.

Dr. Johns was a 40-year member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church in McMurray.

Arrangements by Beinhauer. Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. John XXIII Parish, St. Benedict the Abbot Church. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
