Rita Ann Haggerty

Rita Ann Haggerty, 76, of Washington, was called home to be with her Lord at 7:32 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014, in a UPMC hospital in Pittsburgh, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born November 21, 1937, in Uniontown, a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Anna M. Salina Unetich.
She was a 1955 graduate of Mount Saint Macrina Academy, Uniontown, and a 1958 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She was employed as a psychiatric nurse for Pennsylvania State Mental Health System, retiring from Woodville State Hospital in 1986.
Mrs. Haggerty loved making her friends and family happy by sending cards for birthdays and holidays. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast, who enjoyed spending time with her dogs. She had a beautiful singing voice and was a member of church choirs, also performing in operettas while a student nurse. In her younger years, she painted in watercolors and did charcoal drawings, which her family cherishes. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Haggerty was a member of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands, where she was a member of Christian Mothers and Guild, Rosary Society and a former Confraternity of Christian Doctrine instructor.
On December 26, 1959, she married Patrick E. Haggerty Sr., in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown. Her husband passed away August 27, 2014.
Surviving are two sons, Patrick E. (Sally) Haggerty of Washington and Michael Haggerty (friend-Betty) of Canonsburg; a daughter, SuzAnne (Howard) Smith of Washington; sister-in-laws Agnes Unetich of Uniontown and Mary Bidelman of Johnstown; brother-in-laws James (Evelyn) Haggerty and Lawrence (Beatrice) Haggerty, both of Johnstown; five grandchildren, Felicia (Keil) Seybert, Kristen Haggerty, Sarah Haggerty, Shawn Haggerty and Belle Smith; a great-grandchild, Arya Seybert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a daughter, Meghan P., who died at birth; a brother, Joseph B. Unetich; a granddaughter, Shana M. Haggerty, who died at birth; sister-in-law Margaret "Peggy" Lavely; and brothers-in-law Wilbur Lavely and Thomas Bidelman.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., corner of Wilson and East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 16. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church, Meadowlands, with the Rev. Carmen D'Amico as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Church Cemetery, Canonsburg.
The Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 4 p.m. Monday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Washington.
